A new law has been signed in California that bans private, nonprofit colleges and universities from giving special preference to students with “personal connections.”

Proponents of the new law said the goal is “ensure that factors like wealth or personal relationships do not unduly influence admissions decisions,” according to Newsom’s office.
The new law means that students who have parents that previously attended a specific private, nonprofit school will not have an advantage in the admissions process over students with no parental connection to the institution.

After overcoming her most formidable obstacle, Koa the rescue dog won her biggest prize.
The 10-year-old chocolate Lab recently won the Large Dog Surf Competition at Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge Western Regionals. This was Koa’s first top finish in her over six years of surfing.
Even more impressive, the Purina Pro PlanIncredible Dog Challengewin came less than a year after Koa beat cancer.

A California woman decided to take matters into her own hands when she noticed her packages were being stolen on multiple occasions.
The woman sent a package containing anApple AirTagto her mailbox at the Los Alamos Post Office in Los Alamos, Calif. and was able to catch the suspects stealing her mail with the help of the police, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office wrote in apress releaseon Tuesday, Aug.
