3 Couples Marry in Former Prison on Halloween — and 1 Bride Wore aBeetlejuice-Inspired Gown

One bride wasn’t afraid to turn toBeetlejuicefor bridal inspiration onHalloween!

Burlington County in New Jersey shared onsocial mediathat three couples tied the knot at one of the state’s most haunted locations — the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum — and one of the brides made sure to stay on theme with a haunting look.

“We chose the traditional Lydia and Beetlejuice wedding outfit to really embrace the day,” Webber said, per the outlet.

Her groom, Michael Meichsner, also followed the theme, wearing a coffin boutonniere adorned with Deetz’ infamous line, “I myself am strange and unusual,” and gadgets with Beetlejuice’s face.

Along with a tattoo of Beetlejuice on her arm, the bride also carried a photo of her late father in her bouquet who she said also loved the spooky film and introduced her to it.

As for why she decided to wed on Halloween, Weber said, “It’s the best day of the year. You could be whoever you want, judge-free. And it’s freedom."

She wasn’t the only one who thought so. Couples Allyson Hopewell and Justin Hortelao as well as Amanda Carnella and Paul Sharkey also said “I do” at the spooky venue, which Burlington County said has drawn several “paranormal investigations.”

Burlington County Clerk Joanne Schwartz officiated the weddings in a witch costume, complete with a pointy hat and a wand. She joked with CBS News that the costume was on point as “my real name — my first name is Abra and my last name is Kadabra.”

According to Burlington County, the Historic Burlington County Prison Museum “operated between 1811 and 1965,” which made it “one of the oldest and longest used prisons” in the U.S. and also is “rumored to be among the most haunted.”

“The ghosts were welcome guests at today’s weddings, and Schwartz was thrilled to once again don her witch’s robes and help the couples pledge their undying love and commitment to one another,” Burlington County said.
