61 People Killed in Passenger Plane Crash in Brazil That Was Caught on Video

A passenger plane has crashed in Brazil, killing all 61 people on board.

VoePasssaid on their websitethat the Guarulhos Airport-bound plane crashed in Vinhedo, São Paulo, on Friday, Aug. 9, after taking off from Cascavel, Parana, with 57 passengers and four crew members.

“The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board flight 2283 died at the scene,” VoePass said, according to a translation.

It remains unclear what caused the plane to crash and VoePass said it was working with investigators.

In a translated bulletin, São Paulo government officials said crews responded to the Capela neighborhood in Vinhedo around 1 p.m. local time.

Multiple teams weremobilized to rescueany survivors, while some were responsible for collecting the remains of those who died, they added.

Additionally, teams at both the Unicamp Clinical Hospital and Sumaré State Hospital wereprepared to carefor any patients from the crash who may be referred to them.

Governor Tarcísio Gomes de Freitasreturned to São Paulofrom Vitória in wake of the news, and plans to visit Vinhedo to follow the response.

“Voepass has taken all measures to support those involved,” the airline said.

Their website also provided a hotline for relatives of the passengers to use for updates on the crash.
