Al Roker Jokes About Wife Deborah Roberts' 'Questionable Taste' as He Shares Throwback for Their 29th Anniversary

Al Rokercouldn’t be more grateful for his long-lasting marriage!

TheTodayshow anchor honored 29 years of marriage to his wife, ABC News senior national affairs correspondentDeborah Roberts, with a touchingInstagram poston Monday, Sept. 16.

The post featured a photo of the happy couple getting married above a more recent photo of the two recreating the same expressions and poses.

“When you see you what I looked like 29 years ago, it’s even more amazing @debrobertsabc married me,” he joked in the caption. “Here’s to a woman who has questionable taste and even more questionable eyesight.”

“Not sure @debrobertsabc would agree. #happyanniversary to an amazing wife, friend, mom, journalist and incredible #lifepartner who made sure I survived my crisis a year and a half ago,” he added, referencing howhe was hospitalized for blood clotsthat moved from his leg to his lungs in the fall of 2022.

“Though I’m sure I give her pause to reconsider that from time to time,” he jokingly added. “Thanks for not pulling the plug. I love you.”

For Roberts' part, she posted their wedding photoon Instagramon Monday, Sept. 16 with a tender message.

“How it began…how it is now,” she wrote in the caption. “Still racing toward love and life with you @alroker and so delighted for every adventure.”

“You bring the #joy Here’s to 29 more years. #happyanniversary,” she added.

The couple first met atTodayin 1990 and got married on Sept. 16, 1995 in front of family and friends at Manhattan’s St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The two welcomed their first child, daughterLeila Ruthon Nov. 17, 1998, and in July 18, 2002, they welcomed sonNicholas Albert.

In February 2021, the couple shared more about theirmarriagein an interview for PEOPLE’s first-ever Love Issue.

“He does things like he sprinkles little love notes, little cards throughout my life,” Roberts explained of her husband’s romantic gestures then, adding, “Sometimes there’s a little card next to the coffee maker that might say something encouraging or sweet or impish or fun.”

In March 2022, Robertstold PEOPLEhow the COVID-19 pandemic brought the two closer together.

“We weren’t used to this extended kind of 24/7 time together and [we] felt listless,” she shared. “There was tension at first as we settled into this new reality.”

“It was a reminder of my own romantic journey with my husband and how we formed a tighter and more precious bond during the last 24 months,” Roberts continued. “I marveled at how Al jumped in to take care of me and his family and I fell deeper for him. … And seeing other couples feel this was validating.”

Roberts has also been incredibly supportive through Roker’s health struggles over the years, from hisprostate cancer surgeryin November 2020 to his health scare in Fall 2022 and hisknee replacement surgeryin May 2023.
