Alex Rodriguezshared a cryptic social media update amid news ofJennifer Lopezfiling for divorce fromBen Affleck.
On Tuesday, Aug 20, the same day that his former fiancée, 55,filed for divorce from her husband, 52, of two years, Rodriguez, 49, shared a quote on his Instagram Stories that read: “You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction.”
A source tells PEOPLE that Rodriguez’s Instagram post “has nothing to do” with Lopez. The former New York Yankees playerbegan his romance with the singer in February 2017. Shortly after, theymade their red carpet debut at the 2017 Met Galaandgot engaged in the Bahamas in March 2019.

PEOPLE confirmed thatthe former couple called off their two-year engagementin March 2021, with themofficially sharing the news in a statement that April.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children,” their joint statement shared with PEOPLE read.
“Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support,” the statement continued.
