Todd Chrisleycan always lean on his mom,Nanny Faye Chrisley, for support.

Chrisley Knows Best, which aired from 2014 to 2023, centered around Todd’s boisterous family consisting of his five children — Lindsie, Kyle, Chase,Savannahand Grayson — alongside his wife, Julie Chrisley. However, the real star of the show was Todd’s mother, who is known for her witty one-liners andlove for gambling.

Nanny Faye’s greatest hardship came in 2022 whenher son and daughter-in-law were convictedof fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy. Todd and Julie were sentenced to a combined total of 19 years in prison, though those havesince been reduced.

On Lindsie’s podcast,The Southern Tea, Nanny Faye shared that “my heart is broke” over the couple’s imprisonment. During another podcast appearance in June 2023, Nanny Faye said she’s trying to be a “backbone” for her grandchildren despitebeing in a “dark place” herself.

“I am the queen, and the Sergeant is still barking orders. I have to be the backbone. I have been, and I will be,” she explained. “I check on each and everyone to make sure they’re doing what they need to be doing. … I know that there [is] going to be light at the end of the tunnel."

She and her husband were married for over 40 years

Nanny Faye was married to Gene Chrisley, an Army soldier who fought in the Korean War, up until he died in 2012, peran obituary. The pair tied the knot in the ‘60s before settling down in Atlanta, where they raised their sons.

Like Nanny Faye, Gene had a close relationship with his grandchildren: In a tribute sharedon Instagram, Savannah described her grandfather as one of her “best friends,” who was always encouraging.

“My Papa Gene was my BIGGEST supporter and fan! I don’t think he ever missed a horse show or school event growing up. We were inseparable,” she wrote alongside a throwback snap of her and Chase with Gene.

Savannah continued, “I miss you papa…but I thank God for the 15 years that He gave me with you because those were the BEST 15 years. We miss you.”

She has three sons

Nanny Faye and Gene welcomed three sons together: Todd, Randy and Derrick.

While viewers have gotten accustomed to seeing Nanny Faye and Todd’s playful relationship on-screen, Randy prefers to keep his life out of the spotlight.

In October 2014, Randy wasdiagnosed with Stage 4 cancerand although Todd hasn’t shared further updates about his brother, he appears to be doing well. Randy occasionally posts about his family on Facebook, including a birthday shout-out to Nanny Faye in 2023.

“Happy birthday to the best mom anyone could ever wish for,“he captioneda photo of her. “I love you more than anything in the world. Hope you have a great day.”

Similarly, Todd has praised their mother’s hard work ethic and parenting skills on a number of occasions, both on the show and online. In a 2020 Instagram post, he thanked Nanny Faye for supporting him and Randy and for teaching him to appreciate “the little things.”

“God bless my mama, she worked 60 hours a week in a textile mill to make sure we had everything we wanted and needed,” Toddcaptioned an old photoof him and Randy as kids during Christmastime. “I love you mama.”

The Chrisleys have briefly spoken about Derrick, who died when he was 4 months old in 1971.

She is close with her grandchildren

Nanny Faye is protective of her five grandchildren — Lindsie, Kyle, Chase, Savannah and Grayson — as well as her great-granddaughter, Chloe.

“I love my grandbabies more than anything in this world. When God gave me ya’ll, he just blessed me,” she said on Savannah’sUnlockedpodcast.

Though Kyle has had a rocky relationship with his relatives over the years, Nanny Faye confirmed they’re in a much better place and chat “at least once or twice a day.” She also mentioned that he sometimes dog sits, and they enjoy meeting at Waffle House.

“He comes, we grill out hamburgers. Him and[his wife] Ashleigh. The kids come, and the door is always open,” Nanny Faye said on Lindsie’sThe Southern Tea.

In a 2022birthday postto Nanny Faye, Savannah called her grandmother “my forever girl” and thanked her for the endless “hugs, laughs, kisses, long talks.” Earlier that same year,Savannah notedthat her grandma “makes everything better.”

Nanny Faye was diagnosed with bladder cancer

Todd first opened up about his mother’s diagnosis in June 2022. On his podcast,Chrisley Confessions, he shared Nanny Faye had been undergoing “treatment weekly.”

Several months later, Savannah praised Nanny Faye for being a “champ” throughout chemotherapy, noting that her grandmother wasn’t letting cancer keep her from doing what she loves — visiting her favorite casino.

“She would get her chemo treatment, the next day she would be down for the count and then after that, she’d be in the car on the way to the casino,” Savannah saidUnlocked.

In September 2023, Nanny Faye revealed on her granddaughter Lindsie’s show,TheSouthern Tea, that she was in remission after first receiving her diagnosis two years prior.

“I’m blessed every day. My grandchildren are good to me … I love each and every one of them,” Nanny she said. “As far as my health, everyone knows I’ve had bladder cancer. I’m in remission, thank God. I’ve been out moving around, doing the best I can.”

She has a special bond with Todd’s wife, Julie

Nanny Faye and Todd may be two peas in a pod, but fans also watched a unique connection forge between Nanny Faye and Todd’s wife, Julie, over the years.

From bonding over family recipes to playing hilarious pranks on Todd, the pair are arguably just as tight, and their relationship only grew closer with Nanny Faye’s cancer diagnosis.

“There wasn’t one treatment [for my bladder cancer] where my precious daughter-in-law wasn’t with me — not one time,” she said onUnlocked. “Through it all, she’s been with me.”

Nanny Faye continued, adding that even before her health scare, Juliealways made a point to reach outand check in on her daily.

Nanny Faye’s favorite hobbies include gambling

No matter where she’s traveling, Nanny Faye’s first stop on vacation is always the casino. “I’ve been all over, and any place I go, I Google to see if there’s a casino around,” she explained onChrisley Knows Best.

In fact, Todd and his kids havecaught Nanny Faye gamblingand visiting casinos many times throughout the show’s history.

Nanny Faye has even tried to teach her grandchildren a few tricks. In an Instagram photo of her, Savannah and Chase,she joked, “Love these children. But I like them more when they go gambling with me.”

“She got, like, $3,000 out of me! I was like, ‘I’m just confused what I’m [doing].’ She said, ‘Well, I need money to play.’ I said, ‘You have a big stack of chips right there.’ She said, ‘Well, it don’t hurt,’ ” Chase recalled.

While appearing onUnlocked, Nanny Faye said she’s “ready to go to work” and reunite with viewers. “I love my fans wherever they are, far and near,” she told her granddaughter.

Savannah then teased her grandmother for never declining a fan’s request for autographs or photos, to which Nanny Faye quipped, “They took time to watch me, so I’m going to take for them.”

In August 2023, PEOPLE exclusively announced that Nanny Faye and her grandchildren were partnering with Scout Productionsfor a new, untitled reality program. The show will center around their new life following Todd and Julie’s legal troubles and imprisonment.
