Amy Adams Gets Emotional Thanking Daughter Aviana, 14, at the TIFF Tribute Awards

The film festival whirlwind continues forAmy Adams,Angelina JolieandCate Blanchett!

The three women were among luminaries feted at theToronto International Film Festival’s TIFF Tribute Awards on Sunday, Sept. 8, where stars likeLupita Nyong’oandSalma Hayek Pinaultshowed up to honor them.

Calling her husband, Darren Le Gallo, her “rock,” Adams, 50, grew tearful addressing her 14-year-old daughter, Aviana Le Gallo, who accompanied herto the premiere ofNightbitchthe evening prior.

“To my daughter Aviana, who this is the first time — sorry,” Adams paused, fighting back tears. “This is the first time that she’s gotten to be an event like this with me. And so I get to tell her in front of you all how much I’m grateful for making me not only a better mother, but a better person. Every day you challenge me.”

Accepting the Jeff Skoll Award in Impact Media, Jolie took the opportunity to note that in a time of intense global conflict, “as artists and audience, we have an opportunity now more than ever to watch and learn from world cinema, to listen and to support others who are giving their perspective.”

Before joking that she was getting off her “soapbox,” Blanchett, 55, noted how “hugely influential” the entertainment industry is. “I think it’s a moral imperative to make this switch into making our work more sustainable,” she closed.

Also among honorees at the 2024 TIFF Tribute Awards were director David Cronenberg,Unstoppablestar Jharrel Jeromeand director Mike Leigh.

Jolie’s sons,Maddox, 23, and Pax, 20, both had jobs on the movie’s Italian set in the assistant director department, which serves as a liaison between the film’s director and the other departments of a movie.

“They work hard,” Hayek Pinault, 58, said at the PEOPLE/Entertainment WeeklyTIFF suite on Sunday. “They got the respect of the crew, and they were good with the crew, and they were very in their place.” They even kept is serious with their family friend, she said, adding, “They were not treating me like they treat me outside of there. They were very, ‘You have to come,’ and I go, ‘Okay!’ It was kind of fun.”

Hayek Pinault also added that Maddox and Pax “are very serious about what they do.”
