The sequel, due in theaters Dec. 19, 2025, had its official title revealed Aug. 9 at Disney’s D23 fan event held in Anaheim, Calif.

“Get ready to journey back to Pandora,” read a message on theAvatarInstagram page.

Cameron, 69,told PEOPLE in December 2023thatKate Winslet, who joined the cast in No. 2, will reprise her role as Ronal in the third film. He said Winslet “went to school” learning from “a husband-and-wife shaman practice” to master techniques for the sequel.

“When you see [Winslet] doing that purification ritual to try to revive Kitty in the film and some of the stuff that she’s going to do in movie three, that’s based on actual practice,” he said.

Additionally,Worthington, 48, told PEOPLE in January that the nextAvatarfilmwill be “bigger than you can imagine.”

Cameron said in February thathe has plans for sevenAvatarmoviesso far. “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” Cameron told PEOPLE at the time. “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people."

Added Cameron, “Star Trek,Star Wars, the world-building franchises that have been around since I was a kid, those were my inspirations. … We’re still a young universe. We’re only two movies in, we’re halfway through our third right now. To have that kind of cultural impact over time, you’ve got to pour all your heart and energy into it."
