Every artist loves a blank canvas, so it’s no surprise that the makeup artist on the set of PEOPLE’s “Meet the Disruptors” cover shoot was excited to work with five up-and-coming musical talents who are still “discovering their image, their brand, their music styles, and of course their makeup style!”

Nicole Faulkner, the senior director of artistry and events at e.l.f. Cosmetics (better known onInstagram as @lipsticknick) was on set as the makeup artist for PEOPLE’sMeet the Disruptors cover shoot, glamming up five of the artists with e.l.f.’s products for the shoot to promote the makeup brand’s just-launched musical project,Get Ready with Music, the Album.

“My vision for this shoot was to highlight each individual artist’s best features and infuse elements of their personal styles while also maintaining a cohesive look and feel for them as a whole,” says Faulkner.

“I was able to execute this with the help of an amazing glam and styling team. Denim ended up being a staple in the group’s wardrobe. I wanted to contrast those cool denim tones with warm earth tones for their makeup looks,” she adds.

Q. One step in the makeup routine you can’t skip? For me, it’s setting spray!! I don’t care if I’m already 20 minutes late — you better believe I’m gonna drench my face with a setting spray! I love the Power Grip Dewy Setting Spray because it makes the makeup look a little more “lived in” and less powdered/made-up. It gives a natural dewy glow while still setting my face for long-lasting glam.
