TheMedina County Sheriff’s Officesaid in a statement that dispatchers received a call on the evening of Monday, Nov. 4 “from an individual” who was “trapped in their vehicle that had been swept off the roadway in high water.”
In a later update, authorities shared that after searching the area, the young man’s body was discovered on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
“The 20-year-old young man has unfortunately lost his life to this tragic event and Law Enforcement has been in contact with the family,” added police, who said they have not publicly identified the victim out of respect to his family.

Speaking with CBS affiliateKENS, Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown said that they began searching for the man on the evening of Nov. 4, then continued the next morning with additional personnel.
After finding his vehicle, the search continued downstream, and the sheriff said that his body was eventually discovered five miles away from where they found his car.
“It’s really a tough thing. You know, you never have the words to say to people," Brown said. “In times like that our hearts go out to the family.”
