Brooke Shields Reveals Hilarious Advice She Gave Daughter Grier Before Runway Debut at Fashion Week (Exclusive)

Brooke Shieldsknows when she’s out of her element.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, theBlue Lagoonstar opened up about what it was like watching her daughter, Grier Henchy, 18, make her runway debut during theTommy Hilfiger fashion showat New York Fashion Week on Sept. 18.

“Because I can’t coach that,” she said. “How would I even walk like that?”

TheSuddenly Susanstar went on to explain that posing for editorial (i.e. print) shoots is entirely different from walking a runway, so she couldn’t offer her youngest daughter much guidance.

Shields did, however, reveal the one piece of hilarious advice she did give Grier.

“[Grier] goes, ‘What should I do?’” Shields recalled. “And I go, ‘Look hungry and angry.’”

She’s like, ‘You’re no help.’ I’m like, ‘I never walked the runway. I don’t know how to do this.’”

“But she took it very seriously,” the proud mom continued. “She took the schooling from whoever was going to give it to her, and she didn’t think she knew better, which I was very proud [of].”

Shields, who is also mom to daughter Rowan Henchy, 21, with husband Chris Henchy, initially had major reservations about her daughter’s chosen career path.

“Ifought it for so long,” she said in a 2023 interview onLive with Kelly and Mark.

“It’s such a different industry now than it was. She’s interested in runway, and that’s brutal. I never did runway. I don’t think I would have been able to handle it.”

She continued, saying, “I finally had to give in and say if you’re gonna do this a.) I’m not gonna be your manager. You’re going to be with an agency. You’re going to have a great work ethic. It’s not going to be comfortable and you’re gonna listen to me.”
