Chappell Roan Would Rather 'Get Arrested' Than Become an Actor: 'I Get So Freaked Out by Film People'

Chappell Roanwon’t be on the sliver-screen anytime soon.

The rising pop star (whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz) opened up about how she’d rather “get arrested” than try her hand at acting in a new cover story forInterviewmagazinereleased Monday, Aug. 19.

During the conversation,Saturday Night LivestarBowen Yangasked Roan, 26, if she’d move from music to acting should pop stardom become too overwhelming.

“I say this with peace, and love, and blessings,” Roan told Yang, 33. “Actors are f—ing crazy.”

While the “Pink Pony Club” singer quickly added she didn’t mean theFire Islandstar, Yang agreed with

“I’m crazy,” Yang said.

Roan disagreed again and said the actor/comedian wasn’t “the vibe” she was referring to with her comment.

Although Roan didn’t share any of the projects she’s been approached with, she said she appreciated the interest but would need to pass.

“I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting, and then I moved to Los Angeles, and I was like, ‘F— that,” she explained. “The industry is legitimately so scary, and it is so out of my control.”

Roan continued, “I can put out music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to be like, ‘It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.'”

The “Casual” artist did add a caveat — that she “would maybe do a cameo.”

“I think it would have to be really specific and really silly,” Roan said.Later that day, the singer-songwritertook to TikTokto speak out about the overwhelming attention she’s been receiving.

Roan explained why she has sometimes needed to refuse to taking photographs and spending time with fans who might think they’re “entitled” to certain things because of her level of fame.

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous,” shesaid in one video.

Roan added, “I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, [or] the career field I’ve chosen. That does not make it OK. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. Doesn’t mean that I like it.”

She explained that it isn’t “selfish” of her to say “no” to a photo or a hug.

“That’s not normal. That’s weird. It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s f—ing weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior,” Roan said.

She captioned the clip, “Do not assume this is directed at someone or a specific encounter. This is just my side of the story and my feelings.”
