Cheryl Hines and RFK Jr. Have 'Barely Spoken' Since News of His Alleged 'Personal Relationship' with Reporter (Exclusive)

Things continue to be rocky betweenCheryl Hinesand her husbandRobert F. Kennedy Jr.afterthe former presidential candidate’s alleged “personal relationship"with Olivia Nuzzi.

A source tells PEOPLE that Hines, 59, and Kennedy “have barely spoken” in the two weeks sinceNew Yorkmagazine put Nuzzi, 31, on leave after she allegedly “engaged in a personal relationship” with Kennedy, 70.

“She’s embarrassed because he got caught,” the source says of Hines, who has been in Europe since shortly after the news broke.

PEOPLE has reached out to Hines' rep and Kennedy for comment.

AfterNew Yorkmagazine revealed the news — and that Nuzzi had been put on leave — she said in a statement shared with PEOPLE that “the nature of some communication” between herself and “a former reporting subject turned personal.” Nuzzi clarified that the “relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict.”

Nuzzi has sinceaccused her ex-fiancé Ryan Lizza of playing a role in leaking the allegations, as she claimed in a court filing that he “explicitly threatened to make public personal information about me to destroy my life, career and reputation.” (Lizza has denied Nuzzi’s accusations.)

Days before news of the alleged affair broke,Hines was seen having fun at the HBO/Max Primetime Emmy Awards Afterpartyat the San Vincente Bungalows in L.A.

A source told PEOPLE she “was in good spirits withJeff Garlinat theCurb Your Enthusiasmtable.”

She has not publicly addressed her husband’s alleged extramarital relationship.

During the Gucci show, she also supported her estranged husband’s daughter, Kyra Kennedy, as she was walking in the show.

Hines also celebrated her birthday on Sept. 21 with both Catherine, 20, and Kyra, 29, joining her to celebrate. “Me & my girls,” she wrote over a photo of her with her daughters that she shared on her Instagram Stories.

Hines and Catherine then jetted over to Paris to continue their Fashion Week attendance, and the actress was photographed on Thursday, Sept. 26 entering a Paris Fashion Week party with her daughter. She was notablywearing a ring on her left ring finger, and appeared to pose with her hand in the air for photographers to see the ring.

Hines previously wrote two bands, but was only wearing the smaller one in the shot.
