Emma Roberts Wants to Play a 'Grown-Up' Nancy Drew 17 Years After Playing Her as Teen: 'Where Is She Now?'

Emma Robertswants to solve the mystery of Nancy Drew’s life as an adult.

In a recent interview withCosmopolitanfocusing on her love of books, theWe’re the Millersstar, 33, reflected on playing the iconic literary character and teenage detective in 2007’s filmNancy Drew.

Roberts confessed that she’d love to return to the big screen as the character and get a look at Nancy’s life as an adult.

“Where is she now?” she asked rhetorically. “Like maybe she’s a little bit fallen off the tracks and needs to be set back.”

TheBelletrist book clubfounder toldCosmopolitanthat she was a huge fan ofNancy Drewbooks growing up, so she went to great lengths to prove to the film’s casting directors and executives that she could embody the teenage detective, even though they worried that at 14 going on 15, she was too young for the part.

“When I auditioned for it, they were like, ‘Look, you’re probably not going to get the part, you’re a little on the younger side,’ " she recalled. “I remember going to the Gap and buying an Argyle sweater and a headband — this whole outfit. I was like, ‘This is who Nancy Drew is — I know who she is.’ "

Another book adaptation theAmerican Horror Storystar said she’d love to take part in on the big screen is the upcomingBritney Spearsbiopic based on the pop star’s 2023 memoir,The Woman in Me.

Responding to rumorsthat she’s being considered to play the “Toxic” singer, Roberts toldCosmopolitan:“I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true.”

“I remember I locked myself in my room and listened toIn the Zoneand said, ‘I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word,’ " she added of Spears' 2003 album.
