Emmy Raver-Lampman’s final season onThe Umbrella Academymirrored her real life in a special way.
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about the Netflix series, the actress, 35, recalled filming the fourth and final season while she was pregnant with her first child, calling the experience “really wonderful” as she ended one chapter to start another one.
“It was incredible,” Raver-Lampman says of showcasing Allison’s maternal instincts this season. “Allison spent so many seasons just trying to get back to Claire and to be the mother that she felt like she was failing at being and wanting to parent and make up for her lack of parenting when she grew up.”“Claire is obviously so important to her,” she says, noting that she adored working with Davis, calling her “such a bright, young, incredible” actress. “It’s really beautiful to see [Allison] move through this season and fully living in her motherhood and raising a teenage daughter, which has its own challenges.”

She adds that playing a mother in the final season was especially “interesting” for her as she was getting ready towelcome her first childwith partnerDaveed Diggs.
“I was actually pregnant the entire season that we were filming,” she notes. “So I feel like I spent four seasons portraying this mother who was making all these insane decisions and sacrifices to get back to her child. And just as my time playing that mother ended, I was coming into my own journey of motherhood.”
“I think this season, specifically, will always be really important to me because even just watching, going back and watching the season, just knowing that there was a little human with me the whole time,” she continues, joking that playing Allison all of that time helped her learn “how to not make some decisions as a mom.”
“It was really wonderful to end that chapter and start my own version of motherhood,” Raver-Lampman adds.
In March 2024, Raver-Lampman and Diggs, who previouslyshared the stage in Broadway’sHamilton, announcedthe arrival of their first child, sharing a photo of their little one’s legs.

“It’s definitely bittersweet,“Raver-Lampman told PEOPLEat the season 4 premiere. “I think it’s been an amazing six-plus years for all of us, and we’ve really become a family in real life. I think that’s the beautiful thing to walk away from this experience with, is that I have friends for life.”
