Ex-Trump Aide Anthony Scaramucci Says Kamala Harris Is the ‘Better’ Choice Ahead of First Debate: ‘She’s Going to Win'

In 2017,Anthony ScaramucciwasDonald Trump’s communications director. Now, he is Vice PresidentKamala Harris’ presidential debate guest, ready to do whatever it takes to keep his former boss out of the White House.

“With Vice President Harris, you get a full team of very smart, educated people. With Donald Trump, you get a team of one because that’s what he does to people,” Scaramucci says.

He adds, “There’s a reason why 40 people who went to go work for him are denouncing him and trying to warn the American public about him.”

Scaramucci made headlines as one of the shortest-lived members of the Trump administration, serving as White House communications director for a mere 10 days between his July 21 appointment and hisJuly 31termination.

Multiple sources toldThe New York Timesthat Trump removed him at the request of the incoming White House chief of staff, Gen.John Kelly— who is now another Trump critic — after Scaramucci gave an unhingedtell-all interviewwithThe New Yorkerabout his new White House colleagues.

While brief, Scaramucci says his 10 days with Trump were enough to decide that he is unfit for the presidency.

“The main issue is temperament and character. He doesn’t have the intellectual curiosity to be president,” he tells PEOPLE. “He lacks executive management skills. He doesn’t think like a classic American. He is a divisive person. He wants to break down our allies. He wants to ridiculously and absurdly tax our lower middle income people with these egregious tariffs. And so it’s just a combination of things. It’s just bad thinking.”

Anticipating the debate on Tuesday, Sept. 10, Scaramucci says that he thinks viewers will see “[Harris'] vision is better for their future.”

“I think the vice president is going to offer her vision and her narrative on a multitude of different topics tonight. It’s going to provide the American people with a good comparative analysis, and they’ll see that her vision is better for their future, both from a security, national security point of view, economics in terms of the aspirations that Americans have,” the former communications director says.

He adds, “And the last thing is she represents unity. She’s someone that’s going to bring the country into the future and heal some of the tribalism in the country. She’s not a divider. And I think those are the three big things that she’ll be discussing tonight. And she’s going to win the debate. She’s going to go on and win the election.”

While Scaramucci still considers himself a Republican — “I’ve always been a center-right person and a 42-year Republican”— he says voting Democrat this election is for the greater good.

“I think good Republicanism, frankly, is to stand with people likeLiz CheneyandPaul RyanandMitt Romneyand others that have put their support behind the vice president. I think if anything, the real RINO in this campaign is Donald Trump. He’s the ‘Republican in name only,’ not us.”

On his involvement in Harris' campaign, Scaramucci says “I’ve been on the last two winning presidential elections, and I expect to be on this one as well.”
