Karen E. Laine’s is embracing hernew beginningwith a fresh look.

Laine appeared to style her pixie with a bit of gel as she took fans behind-the-scenes at the Indiana State Fair, marking her “favorite time of the year.”

While Laine, a natural read head, has been letting her gray hair take center stage over the past few years, the home improvement star has remained committed to a longer length and bangs.

The pixie cuts marks a possible symbolic moment for Laine, who is set to starin a newGood Bonesspin-offwith daughterMina Starsiak Hawk, despite their falling out on the original show.

PEOPLE debuted an exclusive clipfrom the season 9 premiere, titled “Mina Takes the Lake,” in which Starsiak Hawk and her husbandSteve Hawktransform an Indiana lake house into a family getaway for the couple and their two children, Jack, 5, and and Charlie, 3. Their primary residence is in Indianapolis.

The limited series comes amid a rift between the mother-daughter duo which Starsiak Hawk has opened up about on her podcast,Mina AF.

Starsiak Hawk revealed in August 2023 that there were growing tensions between herself and her family behind the scenes, saying she wasn’t“in a great place”with either her mom or her brother Tad Starsiak during the final season ofGood Bones.

“We all put our big kid pants on and pretend to be nice … and then go back to our corners of the universe and talk s— about each other,” she shared at the time on her podcast, detailing a surface relationship with her family during vacations or birthdays.

In October, she shared an update on the status of her relationship with her mom: “We do not talk. We haven’t in a long time,” she said.

Starsiak Hawk said that since she’s spoken out on their mother-daughter relationship on the podcast, some people have judged her for “not forgiving and forgetting because it’s family and blood is thicker than water." She added, “Those people can think what they want, but it’s so complicated.”
