On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the pop star, 29, (who uses she/they pronouns) took the stage at New York’s UBS Arena and debutedtheir latest single “Ego.”

In the 2003 comedyFreaky Friday, Lindsay Lohan’s character and her friends form an all-girl garage band and perform rock music.

Last month, it was announced that Halsey would be performing at the VMAs alongsideLenny Kravitz,Lisa,Benson Boone,Chappell Roan,Sabrina Carpenter,Camila Cabello,GloRillaandRauw Alejandro.

On Friday, Sept. 6, the “Without Me” singer released “Ego” and its accompanyingmusic video.

In the final moments of the video, the more femme-presenting version of Halsey hides in the back of their alter-ego’s car and chokes them.

Halseyannounced their fifth studio LPThe Great Impersonatorlast month and shared aneras-spanning trailerrevealing the project would be a “confessional concept album.”

“I made this record in the space between life and death. And it feels like I’ve waited an eternity for you to have it,” they said of the album, out Oct. 25, in a post onX (formerly Twitter). “I’ll wait a bit longer. I’ve waited a decade, already.”
