“My parents bought the house in 1993, owner had 3 daughters and sold it to my parents,” the poster explains. “Today my neighbor just showed up in yard … And she brought 3 daughters from ex owner in our yard and told me: ‘hi, they are daughters from ex owner, they lived here and they want to see how everything looks right now.’ "

After the poster said, “okay,” she says she was met with “complete silence.” That’s when she realized the daughters of the former homeowner wanted to see the interior of the home.
“I thought they are going to just look from outside and that is it. Then my neighbor said: ‘Can they go inside the house to see how it looks right now?’ " the poster writes. “I said: ‘everything has changed, but no, sorry. I don’t feel comfortable with that, I don’t know you.’ "
The neighbor, the poster writes, was not happy with that response.
“She said to me I am really mean, why wouldn’t I let them take a look at the house inside, what could happen? I was quite shocked, but politely told her I am not comfortable with it, if I had a house that I sold I would look it from the road and continue where I was going in the first place,” the poster writes, adding that the former homeowners' daughters were “also visibly angry.”
By and large, commenters agree with the poster that allowing a group of strangers in your home — even if they once lived in it — is a bridge too far.
“Maybe the 3 daughters were feeling nostalgic but if you say no, it’s no. It’s not been their home for 30 years,” one commenter wrote, adding, “Tell your neighbor she doesn’t get to decide how you respond to a request.”
“You know what’s a good way to look at houses you used to live in? Redfin,” another person wrote. “When a recent owner has sold it and posted photos. When you’re not disturbing anyone.”
