An iconic part ofIndiana Joneshistory has been snatched up at auction.
“This fedora was made specifically for the second installment of theIndiana Jonesseries and matches film shots, production stills and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S.,” reads a description of the item on itsofficial auction listing.

According to the listing, the fedora boasts a “slight update” in its design from 1981’sRaiders of the Lost Ark, the first film in the famedSteven Spielbergadventure franchise.
“Costume designer Anthony Powell and assistant costume designer Joanna Johnston worked closely with Herbert Johnson on the update that incorporated a more tapered crown than the prior film,” the description continued.
“The sweatband is notably stamped with the initials “I J” in gold, a feature applied specifically to the hats Herbert Johnson made for the three original installments of theIndiana Jonessaga,” it continued. “It also features some makeup residue at the front of the sweatband.”

Indiana Joneshas spanned five films over the course of 40-plus years, all starring Ford, 82. Aside fromRaiders of the Lost ArkandTemple of Doom,the saga includesIndiana Jones and the Last Crusade(1989),Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull(2008) andIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny(2023).
Ahead of the release of the latter film, Ford appeared tomomentarily choke upas he looked back on the franchise’s legacy while speaking withBBC Radio 1.
“Can I just say, on behalf of all the fans, thank you. It’s been such an adventure, we love you so much. I don’t want to make you blush or anything, but you mean the world to us,” journalistAli Plumbtold Ford at the conclusion of his interview alongside costarPhoebe Waller-Bridge.
“And I must say to you, thank you, sincerely," Ford responded. “Itmeans the world to me.”
