She also channeled E.T. forthe Halloween edition ofThe Jennifer HudsonShow, which airs on Thursday, Oct. 31.The talk show shared a preview of the episode onInstagramandX, showing Monáe in full costume as she greeted hostJennifer Hudson.

“I never would’ve guessed I would’ve got to meet E.T.,” said Hudson in the clip as Monáe repeated Hudson’s name and her prosthetic finger lit up.

An overjoyed Hudson then told the audience, “E.T. knows my name. Thank you for coming to the happy place. I don’t know if I should say Janelle or E.T.,” to which Monáe responds, “E.T. is Janelle Monáe.”

Earlier this month, Monáe revealed to PEOPLE thatthe elaborate costume was years in the making.

“I’ve shared a costume idea with someone’s team, actually, and tried to get a price for how much it would cost. And then I found out that person was going to be that and I had been planning this costume for two years,” she recalled to PEOPLE, only noting at the time that she would be dressed as “an iconic movie character.”

While she added that she would have “multiple costumes,” she revealed why dressing up as E.T. was special to her.

“It’s such a happy thing for me where I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m going to get to transform into this.’ I remember how I felt when I watched this character, and I can’t wait to pay homage to it,” she said.
