Biden elaborated, “Look, she is smart as hell, number one. She is tough. She was a first-rate prosecutor. She is a United States senator of significant consequence. And as vice president, there wasn’t a single thing that I did that she couldn’t do.”

Biden claimed that with a vice president like Harris, 59, he could “delegate her responsibility on everything from foreign policy to domestic policy,” largely due to their similar beliefs.

“The one thing we have in common… We thought the way to build this country and build the economy which was left in tatters was to build a middle class from the bottom up. We give the poor folks an opportunity, give the middle class a chance to grow and the wealthy can still do well,” he said.

Biden added, eliciting laughter from the audience, “They should start paying their taxes, but…”

Discussing the development of the middle class and societal changes, Biden told the hosts atThe Viewthat the nation is feeling discouraged about its future.

“I don’t know all of a sudden how we’re so down on the prospects of America,” he questioned. “There’s nothing, nothing, nothing we’ve ever set out to do we haven’t been able to do as a people, and we’ve done it together. Nothing. Nothing.”

While Bidenpulled out of the 2024 presidential racein July, he said he’s confident that Harris can do the job in his place if elected.

“She has the energy, she has the integrity, she has the intelligence, she has the grit, she has the stamina and she has the guts to do the right thing,” he concluded.

At theDemocratic National Conventionin August, Biden took to the stage to show his support for Harris.

“Our best days are not behind us, they’re before us,” he said to the crowd. “Selecting Kamala was the very first decision I made when I became the nominee, and it was the best decision I made in my whole career.”
