Josh Brolinis reflecting on a candid interaction he had withBarbra Streisandabout his drinking.
In an interview published on Saturday, Nov. 16, withThe Timesto promote his upcoming memoirFrom Under the Truck, theNo Country For Old Menactor spoke about his sobriety and one incident that involvedhis famous stepmother.
On one occasion before he was sober, Josh, 56, went to his fatherJames Brolin, 84, and Streisand’s house and asked for a glass of wine. Streisand, 82, who married James in 1996, responded, “But aren’t you a drunk?”

Josh became sober in 2013 after he woke up outside his house following a drunken night out, later sitting vigil at his grandmother’s deathbed smelling of alcohol. At that moment, he had the realization that he was at the halfway point of his life and wanted to live the second half sober.
“I knew that was going to be the last time I drank,” he toldThe Times. He went to rehab and joined Alcoholics Anonymous. “I like getting older. It’s like a great excuse to finally go, ‘OK, just mellow out, you don’t need to constantly spin,' " he added.

“I love being sober. I have more fun,” he said elsewhere in the interview. “There’s nothing that I go through that I am absolutely certain wouldn’t be worse if I was drinking.”
