ForLuke Grimes, the gravity ofKevin Costner’s departure from his leading role inYellowstonewas not lost while filming the show’s concluding episodes without him.The actor and musician, 40, tells PEOPLE that Costner’sdecision to not returnafter nearly eight years working together instilled “a finality to it.““Him not coming back felt like, ‘Okay, we’re going to have to land this plane now for real,'” Grimes shares. “I think the patriarch leaving was always going to be part of the story. That’s always where it was headed is like, what do these kids do?
