Mac Miller's Family Explains Why They're Releasing 'Official Version' of 'Balloonerism' Album 6 Years After His Death

A long lostMac Milleralbum is finally getting its release.

On Thursday, Nov. 21, the Mac Miller Estate announced that the rapper’s albumBalloonerism— which was teased this past weekend atTyler, The Creator’sCamp Flog Gnaw Carnival — will be released on Jan. 17 via Warner Records.

“Many of Malcolm’s fans are aware ofBalloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release ofFacesin 2014. It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm – to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimatelyGO:OD AMand subsequent albums ended up taking precedence,” his family wrote ina statement on Instagram.

They continued: “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasingBalloonerismwas something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world. With that in mind, we’re happy to announce thatBalloonerismwill be released on January 17th, 2025.”

In the two-and-a-half-minute trailer, a series of animated vignettes are shown before the album cover appears on-screen.

Balloonerismwill be available digitally and in a variety of physical formats including CD, cassette and vinyl. Vinyl will be available as a two-LP release across two exclusive variants only available throughballoonerism.com.
