One maid of honor didn’t even receive a thank you note after giving $700 as a gift at their sister’s wedding.
In arecent poston Reddit’s popular “Wedding Shaming,” user ultimately-unclear explained how it was a “little surprising” to be asked to do the honors in the first place at the nuptials several years ago, given that their sister lives in a different state and “doesn’t ever” try to contact them.
The user explained how they’d flown over to attend the bride-to-be’s engagement party with their partner, and had arrived at their parents' house early to help set up. However, the bride wasn’t happy when she ended up “leaving a small water stain” on her dress while trying to help out and steam it.
“She absolutely lost it. Screamed at me, said I had ruined her day,” the user wrote, adding that they tried to even call the boutique and get a replacement dress, but in the end “managed to get it dry cleaned quickly.”
“It was fine, but she didn’t speak to me the rest of the day. Quite obviously I was only trying to help. She never thanked my partner and I for flying over. The flights are not cheap,” the post read.

The user stated she also found out her sister “was angry” at her for not bringing a gift to the party, not speaking to the “right” people or taking photos, and not showing “enough interest in wedding prep.”
“I was planning to give her a generous wedding gift (which is customary in my culture between family members),” the poster insisted.
The Reddit user said they had to pay for four flights in total, as well as a bridesmaid’s dress — all bridesmaids had to buy their own, despite the bride wanting them to be specific types and colors. They also stated their partner had splashed out on a magnum of champagne to celebrate the occasion.

Despite the expense, when the user asked their mom if $500 was enough for a wedding gift, they were told it wasn’t because they were the older sister.
“I pointed out that she almost openly hates me, screamed at me after her engagement party and would almost certainly never think of giving me even half of $500,” they wrote, adding that their parents had “substantially paid” for the ceremony. The user also said that guests were only treated to a pizza lunch on a weekday afternoon, and had to pay for the bus themselves to get there.
But, they still decided to up the amount of their wedding gift and give $700. “I was told other guests got thank you messages or cards. If you’ve bothered to read all this, you can probably guess I didn’t,” the user wrote.
“You should have walked out when she started screaming about her engagement dress. Please tell me you don’t speak to her anymore,” another commenter added.
