A man in China is accused of killing 35 people and injuring dozens after driving his car into a group of people exercising at a sports complex this week.
The 62-year-old man allegedly rammed his car into the facility on Monday, Nov. 11, in Zhuhai, a city in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, per local authorities, theBBC, theNew York TimesandAPreported.
The injured include senior citizens, teenagers and children, the BBC reported, citing Chinese media.
Investigators learned from collected evidence and statements from those who knew him that Fan was unhappy with his divorce settlement, according to news outlets. The evidence police collected was not immediately clear.
A witness told local magazineCaixinthat during the attack, the assailant allegedly drove the car “in a loop, and people were hurt in all areas of the running track — east, south, west, and north," the BBC reported.

Videos of the attack’s aftermath circulating on social media show many people on the ground, some appearing to call for help, some administering CPR and some with blood on them, perNew York Times.
The suspect was reportedly hospitalized due to a self-inflicted wound following the attack and is in a coma, police said, according to the BBC and theNew York Times.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced an “all-out efforts” to treat the injured and said the suspect will face “severe punishment," per the BBC.
