A Texas police officer fatally shot a man at a high school in El Paso, leading to cancellation of school for the day.
Chavira reportedly said the man killed was in his 50s and was within the perimeter of Franklin High School. The incident did not affect any students and occurred before 6 a.m., theTimesreported.
At the time, a group of cross-country runners were on campus, Chavira reportedly said, but they were not near the shooting and were subsequently placed in lockdown, the outlets reported.
The man who was killed was not identified. Police did not say what preceded the shooting.

“One person died as a result of this incident,” the statement continued. Outside agencies are assisting El Paso ISD with the investigation. Further communication will be provided as more information becomes available.”
KTSM reported that it is possible the school will reopen on Friday, Aug. 23.
