Stein, 58, the state’s Democratic attorney general, was seen as the heavy favorite despite North Carolina’s status as a purple state, in large part because of Robinson’s controversial candidacy, which racked up several negative headlines in the last few months of the race.

Previously, Robinson quoted Hitler in a2014 Facebook postand denied the Holocaust in multiple other posts, including onein which he claimed that “this foolishness about Hitler disarming MILLIONS of Jews and then marching them off to concentration camps is a bunch of hogwash.”

At a 2020 event that later resurfaced on YouTube, Robinson said he wanted to go back in time to the period when women were not able to vote.

ACNN reportfrom May 2023 found that Robinsonreferred to survivorsof the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla., as “spoiled little b—–ds.”

Though polls measuring the presidential contest in North Carolina were razor thin leading up to Election Day on Nov. 5, Stein consistently led in polls, outside the margin of error.
