Matt Barnes Shares Update on Son Isaiah After He Was 'Hit by a Car' and Underwent Appendix Surgery

Former NBA playerMatt Barnesis sharing an update on his son Isaiah after he was hospitalized for an appendectomy.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, the retired forward, 44, shared a post on his Instagram revealing that hishigh school-aged sonhad experienced a “tough week.”

“Couldn’t sleep all Friday night decided to FINALLY tell his mom & I yesterday when he couldn’t move,” Barnes continued. “I took him to the emergency room & he had to have emergency appendix surgery.”

“Doctor said it was the largest appendix he had ever seen that hadn’t ruptured 🙏🏽,” he concluded the post, alongside a photo of his son in a hospital bed. “Appreciate the love & support from family & friends!! We’re headed home ❤️.”

Isaiah’s mother and Matt’s ex-wife,Gloria Govan, also posted several updates on her own Instagram Stories. On Saturday, she shared that while the teen’s twin brother, Carter, was playing at the basketball tournament, Isaiah was “waiting on surgery.”

“It’s minor… kinda,” theBasketball Wives L.A.alum, 39, wrote. “An appendicitis but still!”

Isaiah — who plays basketball at Crespi Carmelite High School in California, according toCronkite News— shared some updates about his health himself.

On Saturday, the teenagersnapped a photo from his hospital bedand posted it on his Instagram Stories with the caption: “[About] to go under.” He provided another update on Sunday, stating: “We made it y’all.”

He also reposted his dad’s photo, and wrote in an Instagram Stories post, “Been one tough week man.” After Isaiah was discharged, he shared a photo of a car pulling up to the side of the road, presumably getting ready to take him home from the hospital.

“Discharged,” Isaiah wrote in the post, adding a prayer hands emoji. “Thank you to everyone for the prayers.”

After Isaiah’s surgery, Matt alsoposted a video of the teen and his twin brother reunitingafter the operation. The siblings could be seen hugging as Isaiah returned home from the hospital, and Carter checked out his new scar.

“Missed you man,” Carter could be heard telling his twin in the sweet clip.

In addition to his twin boys, Matt is also father to son Ashton, whom he shares with his fiancée, model Anansa Sims. The retired athlete is often candid on social media about his support for his kids. Last year, he shared a series of photos in celebration of Isaiah and Carter’s eighth grade graduation.

“14yrs later & you’re off to high school!! Words can’t express how proud I am of you two,” the proud dadwrote at the time, sharing a snapshot of the boys posing with their younger brother at the graduation. “Continue moving w honor, morals, principles & respect as you guys navigate this next chapter🙏🏽. Love you two w all my heart.”

Matt played 14 seasons in the NBA, including two seasons with the Lakers, four with the Clippers and just under two with the Kings.
