Matt Damon Says His Daughters Are Growing Up So Quickly: 'It's at a Blistering Pace' (Exclusive)

Matt Damon’sdaughters are getting older — and he can’t believe how quickly the time is passing.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE for this week’s issue, theAiractor, 53, was asked if he and his longtime friend andThe InstigatorscostarCasey Affleckever share parenting advice, given that the two are both raising teenagers.

“It’s like suddenly your kid’s going to college, and it’s at a blistering pace,” the dad of four jokes.

Damon appeared on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy earlier this month and spoke with hostAndy Cohen, 56, abouthis best advice for being a girl dad.

“Oh, man. I don’t know. I wouldn’t deign to give anybody advice other than I just try to listen and be helpful,” Damon responded to Cohen’s question. “I mean, ultimately, it’s about building self-esteem.”

“You know, 99% of the decisions they make, you’re not gonna be there, right?” added Damon.

“Right. What kind of dad are you when they bring a boy home and they say, ‘I’m dating this…'” Cohen asked, trailing off.

“Oh, I’m fine. I’m cool with that. You know what I mean?” Damon replied, prompting Cohen to ask, “You don’t turn all Boston, like, ‘What are you doing with my daughter?'”

“No, no, no. That’s like an old trope that I think people, you know, like to play up. You know, dads like to joke about it amongst each other I think sometimes, but no,” the dad of four explained.

“You know, at least, our [25-year-old] has, you know, she’s got this incredible boyfriend who Lucy and I just love,” Damon said of his daughter Alexia. “We adore the guy and to see that she’s making those kinds of choices, really, it’s as good as it gets.”

On Wednesday, July 31, Damonwalked the red carpet with his entire familyfor the New York premiere of his latest film,The Instigators. The proud dad posed for photos with all four of his daughters and his wife, smiling together.

PEOPLE spoke to theOppenheimerstar at the event, who said that his wife was the one who convinced him to join the upcoming comedic thriller.

“She actually produced this one,” Damon said of Luciana. “So she was very actively involved in this one, but I just trust her.”
