Angourie Riceteamed up with a special co-author for her debut novel.TheMean Girlsactress, 23, is sharing the cover of her young adult novel,Stuck Up and Stupid, exclusively with PEOPLE.The book, publishing next year from Candlewick Press, is co-written with Angourie’s mother, playwright Kate Rice.Described as a modern take on the classic Jane Austen novelPride and Prejudice,Stuck Up and Stupidcenters on Lily, who is looking forward to a summer at the beach with her friends. Her plans get interrupted when the superstar Dorian Khan comes to town, along with his entourage of movie star friends.

Speaking on theBut Are You Happy?podcaston June 5, Angourie and Kate discussed working on the novel together, and Angourie mentioned how it helped her in her personal life as well.

“For me, it felt like a gift for us as well to write it,” Angourie said. “Because I remember I was sort of going through a difficult time while we were writing it. And I remember Kate telling me, ‘How would our protagonist, how would she deal with this … put into her these qualities that you want to find in yourself.”
