Megan Thee Stallion Revealed as Host for 2024 MTV Video Music Awards

Nicki Minajhosted the previous two VMAs ceremonies.

Katy Perrywill be honored at the ceremony with the coveted video vanguard award, and she will perform a medley of hits from her catalog — plus, presumably, some new material from her upcoming143album.

Other performers at this year’s VMAs will include Carpenter, Benson Boone,Camila Cabello,Chappell Roan, GloRilla,Halsey,Lenny Kravitz, LISA of Blackpink andRauw Alejandro.

Megan’s hosting gig comes shortly after the release of her self-titled third album in June. The project has spawned multiple hits, including the chart-topping “Hiss” and viral “Mamushi” with Yuki Chiba.

The “WAP” rapper also recently wrapped her Hot Girl Summer Tour in July. During the final show of the run at the O2 Arena in London, she brought out Chiba, 34, as a surprise guest for the debut live performance of “Mamushi.”

Since its release on Megan’s latest album, the bilingual song has gone viral on TikTok, where it’s soundtracked more than 1.8 million videos, and reached No. 36 on theBillboardHot 100. The NSFW “Mamushi” music videodropped earlier this month.

Titled after a snake found in Japan, the track is one of several on Megan’s latest album to feature a snake motif, as others include “Boa,” “Hiss,” “Rattle” and “Cobra.”

Megan opened up about why the reptile influenced her latest era in a May interview withL’Officiel USA. “We don’t just stop at the snake. This is just what everybody sees right now. Renewal, rebirth: that is the whole concept of this [album],” she told the outlet.

“We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in western culture,” added Megan. “Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality.”

She continued, “I’m not really a person that’s like,Oh my God, sunshine and just super bubbly, happy.I like darker things. I like things that are a little scary. I like things that are unique. I picked the snake because… it’s kind of like an antihero.”
