Messy NLDS Game Is Delayed After Dodgers Fans Throw Objects at Padres Players

Game 2 of the NLDS ground to a halt in the seventh inning after fans at Dodger Stadium threw objects at San Diego Padres players.

The game on Sunday, Oct. 6 was delayed for nearly 10 minutes while the umpiring crew met in the outfield, as Padres manager Mike Shildt and other members of the team were seen talking to outfielder Jurickson Profar — who was the target of a baseball thrown on the field from the stands.

Some Dodgers fans may have been taking out their displeasure on Profar after he caughtMookie Betts' would-be home run and then briefly taunted the crowd.

In a clip from the game, Profar is seen hiding the ball in his glove before he eventually reveals that he made the catch.

After the game, Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. voiced his opinion about the incident, in which he was also the target of flying trash from the stands.

“Dodger fans, they were just not happy,” he said. “They’re losing the game, obviously, and just a lot of back and forth. What can I say? I wish they could control it a little bit more, their emotions.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts agreed. “I’ve seen over a thousand games here, well over a thousand games in this ballpark, and I’ve never seen anything like that,” Roberts told the media. “So obviously there’s a lot of emotions and things like that. But that’s something that should never happen.”

The series shifts to Petco Park in San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
