N.C. Man with 'Infectious Smile' Is Killed on Wedding Day, Hours After Marrying 'Love of His Life'

A North Carolina man is being remembered as “a beloved” husband and father with an “infectious smile” after he was shot and killed hours after getting married.

Local WXIIreportsthat Tyrek Burton, 37, was shot and killed Saturday outside of the Barber Park Event Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Burton was discovered in the parking lot of the events center. He was reportedly shot approximately 15 times, according to local outletsWRALandWECT. Local WFMYreportsthat Burton died later Saturday night from his injuries.

“Why on the wedding day? Why him? Just why, why, why?” Burton’s sister-in-law Nysheria Holloway mourned in an interview withWRAL. “He stepped up to be a father figure in my two oldest nieces' lives …. He moved them away from Roxboro, secured a stable job and was building a future with my sister.”

Holloway said Burton and her sister, Kiara Holloway, had been a couple for 16 years.

Burton’s cousin Keisha Satterfield launched aGoFundMe fundraiserto help Burton’s family with funeral costs and to provide support for his children.

Satterfield wrote her cousin was killed after marrying “the love of his life, on one of the happiest days of his life.”

“He was a beloved husband, father of four beautiful girls, brother and friend,” Satterfield wrote, adding that Burton was “known for his generosity, and infectious smile.”
