Rodrigo captured the magic of her GUTS world tour with help from director James Merryman, who had the cameras rolling for a show at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles in August. Thetour began in Februaryin Palm Springs, Calif., and wrapped earlier this month after nearly 100 shows.
“I just wanted to create an experience for people to relive the show and I’m so proud of the show and everyone works so hard to pull it together,” she says. “I was really excited at the prospect of having a little memento that we could watch back forever.”
In her chat with PEOPLE, Rodrigo says the tour brought along some lifelong memories, like the time her two best friends celebrated her show at the iconic Madison Square Garden with a sign that read, “We love you Olivia.”

“We finished the tour in Australia and me and all my dancers, we took a surf lesson at one of the beaches in Australia. I’ll remember that forever,” she says. “It was so much fun, and we all stood up and it was great. It’s like a core memory for sure. We all caught waves!”
Rodrigo says the goal with her concert special was creating something that would commemorate the experience as a sort of “time capsule, just for me personally.”
“I’m really excited to show my kids this film when I’m like, 40,” she says. “And be like, ‘This is what mom did when she was 21! Isn’t that cool?’”
