A family in Canada is celebrating the arrival of an unlikely message from the past.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Makenzie Van Eyk told theCanadian Broadcasting Coorporation(CBC) how she’d placed a message in a bottle into Lake St. Clair for a school project in 1998 and never gave it a second thought — until it found its way to her daughter 26 years later.

Every year, the Jimenez family packed up their twins into the family van to see theHalloweendisplays around San Jose, Calif., until their son, who had severe health issues, was no longer able to leave the house.
“He loved the lights because he had such minimal vision in his left eye, lights always intrigued him,” mom Shelly Jimenez tells PEOPLE.

Hope Cameron tells PEOPLE she started taking a quick video of her son holding her daughter in August 2023, and continued the habit until July 2024, “every month until my daughter was 1 year old.”
“She was a month old in the first clip and a year old in the last clip,” she says.

“It wasn’t something I overlooked anymore; it was a time to appreciate and reflect. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve been here before,’ " Gonzalez tells PEOPLE exclusively.
That moment sparked something for her. She decided to post a video of the bag on TikTok, captioning it, “She deserved the purse.” She hoped the video would reach at least one mom and remind her of the sacrifices many make along the way.
