Moore has been speaking out on the topic of aging recently as she promotesThe Substance, in which she stars as a fictional celebrity named Elisabeth Sparkle who tries a black-market cell-replicating drug the promises to create a younger, better version of yourself. The film has been applauded for taking aim at the unreasonable high beauty standards placed upon women.
Despite wanting to be younger in the movie, which is in theaters now, Moore has said that the film gave her a great appreciation for herself and changed how she felt about getting older.
“I’m at a point where I’m writing my own story, as opposed to my story being dictated to me based on my age,” she toldVarietyin an interview published on Sept. 3. “Who says somebody can’t look a certain way or do certain things? Your 60s is not what your 60s used to be. There’s a part of me that’s enjoying figuring it out as I go along.'
“To me, this is the most exciting time of my life,” she added later that month, in an interview on theTodayshow. “It is. I feel like my children are grown, I have the most independence and autonomy to really redefine where I want to go. I don’t know what that looks like or where it is, but I’m just excited to be living in it.”
