Ryan Murphy Teases New9-1-1Spinoff in 'a New City' AfterLone StarCancellation

9-1-1fans rejoice!Ryan Murphyis coming to the rescue with a brand new series.

Nearly a month after FOX announced that9-1-1: Lone Starwould be concluding with its fifth and final season, the Emmy award-winning producer and franchise creator, 58, revealed that a new spinoff was in the works.

“Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we’re actually writing, and that we hope to get on the air next fall,” Murphy toldVariety. “Sadly, we all loveLone Star, but the financials just didn’t work. It’s a Disney company that was on a Fox network, and it just was never going to work. And we had a long run of it."

“Now we’re going to launch a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s fun,” he continued. “And9-1-1moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night. They obviously have an appetite for that, so we’re going to give them another one that I really love.”

On Thursday, Sept. 5, FOX revealed that theRob Lowe-led procedural was coming to an end after months of speculation surrounding its cancellation.

He also thanked the show’s creators, Murphy,Brad Falchukand Tim Minear, calling them “one of the greatest creative teams in all of television” as he credited them with “creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere.”

In August, Lowe, 60, who leads Austin’s fledgling 126 firehouse unit as Owen Strand, toldVarietythatthe cast “all went into [season 5] pretty much knowing that it was going to be the last season.”

“It feels like it’s probably the end of an era of a certain type,” he continued. “Well, it doesn’t feel like it. Itisthe end of an era of a certain type of show we once had an opportunity to make, and I think they’re great.”

Lowe said that the upcoming 12-episode season consists of “mini-movies every week,” adding, “I think we did a really good job. The stories that we were able to tell on a weekly basis in terms of the scope and scale — that’s probably the thing I’m most proud of.”
