The moment went down before Carpenter played her song “Juno,” as she looked around the arena for her “Juno girl” of the evening. Antonoff, 40, appeared on the jumbotron posing with his arms crossed.
“Hey, this is super awkward,” said Carpenter from the stage, per aTikTokvideo. “But I’m sure you’re probably really good at producing. In fact, I’m almost so confident that you could produce someone even hotter than you.”
The Bleachers musician, who produced several songs on Carpenter’sShort n' Sweetalbum, then walked out of frame, and Qualley, 30, stepped in with a smile on her face.
“This right there ladies and gentlemen, this is a hottie with substance,” exclaimed Carpenter, nodding to Qualley’s starring role as Sue in body horror filmThe Substance.
