Shaboozey Hits Back After Cody Johnson Producer Uses His Name as Butt of CMA Awards Joke: 'Ain't Nobody Kicking Me'

Shaboozeyis sharing his thoughts on one of theCMA Awardsjokes using his name.

Multiple people used the “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer’s name in jest during the 2024 CMA Awards at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Nov. 20, and he took to social media with a response to one of them after the show.

Cody Johnsonwon album of the year forLeatherat the ceremony, and his producer Trent Willmon spoke a few words of his own as they accepted the trophy. “I got to tell you, this is for this cowboy who’s been kicking Shaboozey for a lot of years,” he said, seemingly using the 29-year-old star’s name in place of the word “booty.”

Shortly following the event, Shaboozey shared a photo of himself smiling and shrugging to X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Ain’t nobody kicking me!”

Elsewhere during the 2024 CMA Awards, hostsLuke BryanandPeyton Manningalso used the Grammy-nominated performer’s name in jokes on stage, with the former NFL star exclaiming at one point, “Holy Shaboozey!”

While discussing the success of “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which has become the longest-running No. 1 hit on theBillboardHot 100 of the year, Bryan said, “In Nashville, that’s what we call a Sha-doozey.”

Manning then quipped, “That does not sound right at all.”

The hit song, which samples J-Kwon’s 2004 track “Tipsy,” earned a nomination for single of the year at the 2024 CMA Awards, while Shaboozey was up for new artist of the year. He did not win either award.

Earlier this month, the Virginia native earned Grammy nominations for best new artist, song of the year, best country song and best country solo performance with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and best melodic rap performance for “Spaghettii,” one of his two collaborations with Beyoncé on herCowboy Carteralbum.

“Hearing your name [mispronounced] during attendance was always a thing; you felt like you had to make it easier for everyone else to understand,” he told the outlet.
