Teen Mom Heading to Pick Up 4-Month-Old Daughter Is Killed When 'Large Bird' Flies Into Windshield: Official
Mar. 15, 2025A South Carolina teen mother died in a car crash after a bird flew out of the woods, and into the vehicle’s windshield, according to officials.
After arriving on the scene, they pronounced one of the teenagers, identified as 17-year-old Abbigail Callaham, the mom of a 4-month-old daughter, dead.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore told local Fox affiliateWHNSthat the teens left Belton-Honea Path High School after early dismissal. According to a witness, the crash took place after “a bird flew out of a tree” and “hit the car on the windshield.”
In the press release, the coroner’s office described the creature as a “large bird, possibly a turkey” and noted that after it hit the windshield, the driver “lost control of the vehicle, ran off the right side of the roadway where he overcorrected, crossed the center line and hit a tree on the left side of the roadway.”
The coroner’s office said Callaham, who died of multiple traumatic injuries, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Meanwhile, the coroner’s office says the driver was taken to the hospital, where he “continues to recover.”
Her manner of death has been ruled as accidental.

“We will have extra counselors at BHP to provide grief support to students and staff. Please keep Grace’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this difficult time," the district wrote, going on to share that they will also host an event to “lift up prayers for both of these students and their families.”
