A teenager put his mobility above his sister’s wedding color scheme — and was asked to sit out of the wedding photos because of it.
The 15-year-old explained in a Redditposton the popular “Am I The A——?” subreddit that he was set to attend his eldest sister Sophia’s wedding, and noted that since he had “mild cerebral palsy” had worked out a plan with her to use a black cane for her black-and-white-themed wedding ceremony.
“Sophia had asked me to make my cane more presentable for a wedding… which I totally understand (my normal one is covered in stickers),” he shared in the post. “I obviously get that it wasn’t exactly formal so I wrapped it in black tape, which my sister was happy with.”
However, he said that when the wedding day came around, he was “having a very ‘off’ day,” in which his “legs hurt” and his “balance was way off.” He said he ended up having to use his “crutches, which are blue” for the ceremony, noting that he “figured it would be fine." But when he got to the reception — it was a different story.
“She seemed awfully offended that I was using my blue crutches and asked if I could just stay seated and not have the crutches out to not ‘ruin the color scheme,’ ” he said. “I was frustrated but I just did it because it’s my sister and she’s right, they stood out a lot.”
He said when the time came around for family photos his sister Sophia complained to their mother that he was “ruining the pictures,” to which he told her to “suck it up.”
“Then she begged our mum to tell me to not be in the FAMILY PHOTOS,” he shared. “I was sure that my mum would notice how ridiculous that is but my mum just sided with my sister and told me that I was technically ruining the theme.”

He said this led to “an argument” between the three, which caused his sister to start crying at the wedding, which she said ruined her wedding makeup. She also complained about how “her pictures had ‘ugly blue crutches’ in them.” Their mother then asked him to leave before the food was served or the cake cutting.
“I couldn’t believe my sister was crying about something so stupid,” the teen said, adding that he was surprised because his family “had never acted like this before.”
Another said, “This isn’t a wine stain on the bride’s dress, or a cousin wearing white. It’s a part of how [the Redditor] gets around. No one is going to look at those pictures at all, let alone look at them and think ‘if only they were black the photo would look better.’”
“Weddings are supposed to be about celebrating love and commitment with family and friends,” one commenter shared. “They are NOT supposed to be about aesthetics. Or treating family like accessories instead of loved ones.”
When some users commented about their surprise over the family’s response, the user noted that “they’ve never acted like this, that’s why I find it so ridiculous.”
