The Cast ofPractical Magic: Where Are They Now?

AfterPractical Magic’s 1998 premiere, the fantasy film adaptation has remained a fan-favorite more than two decades later — even among its A-list cast.

“I love that movie,“Nicole Kidmanrecalled during a brief reunion with former costarSandra Bullockat theAcademy Awardsin 2018. “I showed that movie to my kids. It’s a little above their [level of understanding] … But we’re really good sisters.”

Kidman and Bullock continued to forge impressive careers in Hollywood, with the two winning Oscars for Best Actress; Kidman for her role inThe Hours(2002) and Bullock for her performance inThe Blind Side(2009).

“Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that’s that,” Kidman told PEOPLE. “There’s a lot more to tell which is why we go, ‘OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.’ [We] found a way in.”

Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens

Before Bullock charmed audiences as Sally Owens — the reserved older Owens sister — inPractical Magic, she had already starred in the action thrillerSpeed(1994) and the 1997 sequel, as well as romantic comedies likeWhile You Were Sleeping(1995) andHope Floats(1998). However, her best was yet to come on-screen.

As for herPractical Magicrole, Bullock has good memories of filming the supernatural flick, particularly when shooting the singular and oft-talked-about"midnight margaritas” scene— where Bullock and Kidman apparently got tipsy while filming.

“[Kidman and I] were talking about when we shot [Practical Magic] together, and we asked her to get the tequila,” Bullock said during a red carpet appearance at the 2018 Oscars. “She came back with her own tequila, but we drank it anyway. We were a little drunk.”

Though Bullock’smoviemaking pace has slowedsince adoptingher two children, son Louis and daughter Laila, she was featured in box office hits and Netflix favorites likeOcean’s 8(2018),Bird Box(2018),The Unforgivable(2021),The Lost City(2022) andBullet Train(2022). She is slated to reprise the role of Sally Owens in thePractical Magicsequel.

In August 2023, her longtime partner, photographerBrian Randall,died after a three-year battle with ALS. Bullock and Randall dated from 2015 until his death at the age of 57.

Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens

Like Bullock, Kidman was already an established actress before trying her hand at black magic as the carefree and rebellious younger Owens sister. Kidman’s fame and on-screen credits continued to grow after the release ofPractical Magic, with the actress earning her first Best Actress Oscar nod in 2002 forMoulin Rouge!In 2003, she took home the statuette forThe Hoursand was nominated again forRabbit Hole(2010),Lion(2016) andBeing the Ricardos(2021).

Kidman has been married to country superstarKeith Urbansince June 2006. The couple shares two daughters,Sunday RoseandFaith Margaret. (Kidman is also mother to daughterIsabellaand sonConnorwith ex-husbandTom Cruise.)

Stockard Channing as Aunt Frances

Who can forget the legendaryStockard Channingas Aunt Frances? She portrays one-half of the witchy sister duo that trained the movie’s heroines, Sally and Gillian.

The Oscar-nominated actress — who already appeared inGrease(1978),Six Degrees of Separation(1993) andTheFirst Wives Club(1996) — has had a successful run on the big and small screen sincePractical Magic.She had a memorable turn as the president’s wife onThe West Wingand a recurring role onThe Good Wife. Channing has held other roles on the seriesMaryland,JuliaandKnuckles.

Channing has been married and divorced four times. While filmingA Time of Destiny(1988), she met her long-term partner, cinematographer Daniel Gillham, whom she dated from 1990 until his death in 2014.

Channing’s other half on-screen is the equally legendaryDianne Wiest, who was already known for a string of hits dating back to the early-’80s, includingFootloose(1984) andWoody Allen’sThePurple Rose of Cairo(1985). She has also earned two Oscars for her supporting roles inHannah and Her Sisters(1986) andBullets Over Broadway(1994).

Wiest is a mother of two daughters, Emily and Lily.

Arguably best known for playing Nancy Spungen in 1986’sSid and Nancy, Chloe Webb is Carla, the quirky (and maybe slightly witchy herself) employee at Sally’s botanical shop.
