Meeting the parents is a big step in any relationship – but for those partaking in the “I Love Your Daughter” trend on TikTok, it seems their biggest offering is their dance moves.
The new trend may feel familiar to fans of a particular 2000s television series, and it’s got many users showing off their silliest dance moves for millions of viewers.
The trend has more than 100,000 videos at the time of writing, with stars likeRuPaulandEnglish Teacherstar Brian Jordan Alvarez posting clips to participate.
Its virality is filling For You pages, but where did it start? Here’s everything to know about the trend.
The black-and-white short depicts a girl bringing her boyfriend home to meet her parents, warning her lover that she’s her dad’s “favorite daughter.” It’s a stiff interaction, with nothing but the ticking of a wall clock in the background as the family sits in four separate chairs.
“I love your daughter,” Kirk’s character tells the father, who fires back with, “Who are you to love my daughter? What do you have to offer her?”

The TikTok edit swaps this song out for Olly Alexander’s “Breathe,” splicing some of the clips of Kirk dancing together.
Since the edit has started making the rounds on TikTok, users have mostly used it to show off their silly dance moves.Kris Collins(@KallMeKris) used the audio alongside Celina Myers (@CelinaSpoonyBoo) as they danced awkwardly together.
Game Master Network’sRebecca Zamoloposted a version with her husband, Matt Slays, where he tried to moonwalk off-screen.
“Fun fact: he was in a boyband when he met my dad,” Zamolo noted in the caption of the video, referring to the now-defunct boyband Townsend.
Occasionally, a user will show off a different skill than goofy dancing, such as athletic abilities or goods they’ve baked, though most still include some dancing aspect.
Since the audio was originally posted in mid-September, plenty of celebrities and influencers have used the sound for their own posts. Alvarez has been repeatedly using the sound topromote his new FX seriesEnglish Teacher, which is currently available to stream on Hulu.
