The Umbrella Academycast reunited for the premiere of the show’s fourth and final season, and for at least some cast members, the feeling was incredibly bittersweet.
At the premiere for the Netflix show’s fourth and final season in Los Angeles, California on Aug. 5,Elliot Page, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Aidan Gallagher reflected on their time working together.
“It’s definitely bittersweet,” Raver-Lampman, 35, tells PEOPLE. “I think it’s been an amazing six-plus years for all of us, and we’ve really become a family in real life. I think that’s the beautiful thing to walk away from this experience with, is that I have friends for life.”
Gallagher, 20, was 13 when he auditioned for the role of Number Five — and he’s well aware how large a role the show has played in his life so far.

“It’s been a long time and it’s been a privilege to get to go through life through all of this,” he says, adding, “It’s been an absolute joy.”
Page, 37, for his part, acknowledged that he’ll miss playing his character Viktor Hargreeves. “Viktor has really arrived at himself in so many ways, and he’s so much more self-assured,” says the actor.

InThe Umbrella Academy’sfourth season, the Hargreeves siblings have scattered following last season’s showdown at the Hotel Oblivion, which led to a “complete reset” of their timeline, according to the synopsis.
“Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success. Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long,” the synopsis continues. “Their father Reginald (Colm Feore), alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire. A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right.”

“I honestly really do like the fact that we don’t have powers becauseThe Umbrella Academywas never really about the powers,” he says. “The power was just a little seasoning to [the show], [this season] has de-escalated and it’s become much more about, ‘Let’s just watch these people that we really love bantering with each other.’ "

At the show’s premiere on Aug. 5, Castañeda hinted to PEOPLE that the “epic” fourth season will feature “a lot of comedy” with sibling rivalry and moments that tug at the heartstrings. Raver-Lampman, for her part, teased viewers will get to see her character Alison like “we’ve never seen before,” adding, “it’s an Allison that she’s been trying to be since we met her.”
With production having wrapped last May, the tightly-knit cast now have to work that much harder to see one another.
“We have the best time. We really, really do,” Raver-Lampman explains. “I’ll miss it being so the show brings us together. Now we actually have to work at it, because we’re all over. We’ve got people in London and Ireland and New York and L.A. and Seattle. I think it’s going to be a little bit more work, but it’s worth it because we are family.”
The Umbrella Academyseason 4 premieres Aug. 8 on Netflix.
