Torrey Peters is ready to give an honest look at the ins and outs of gender with her upcoming book,Stag Dance.

With its March 11, 2025, publishing date only months away, PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the cover for the book Peters says was written “over the course of a decade.”

The upcoming release features a collection of one novel and three novellas that Peters tells PEOPLE has “wild characters and settings in a hormonal apocalypse, through the eyes of a lumberjack and at a fetish event in Vegas.”

“Obsession, repressed desires, and betrayal lead up to the big night, as The Lumberjack grows increasingly jealous of Lisen, the prettiest young man in camp, weaving a surreal tall tale that questions the nature of transition,” the synopsis continues.

The first novella,Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones, “imagines a sci-fi future in which everyone must choose their own gender — the vengeful consequence of a rogue trio of charismatic trans women who destroy civilization as we know it,” the synopsis explains.

InThe Chaser,readers follow a secret romance between roommates at a Quaker boarding school that brings out “intrigue and cruelty.”

The last novella,The Masker, revolves around a party weekend on the Las Vegas strip that “turns horrific when a young crossdresser must choose between two guides: a handsome mystery man who objectifies her in thrilling ways or a cynical veteran trans woman offering unglamorous sisterhood.”
