The internet has beenfull of memesthis Olympics pointing out that star forwardTrinity Rodmanis sporting a similar shade of pink in her hair to that which retired championMegan Rapinoehad during the 2019 World Cup. Rodman confirmed Thursday, Aug. 8 that she’s seen the comparisons.

“Yeah, I’ve been sent a few [of the memes],” Rodman replied to PEOPLE with a laugh during a press conference ahead of the game.

“We got to see Pinoe [Rapinoe], so I talked to her about that,” the 22-year-old continued while speaking to PEOPLE and other reporters in Paris. “I guess we need some color somewhere and pink’s been the color — pink, purple, whatever. So yeah, I guess we’ve got to continue that moving forward.”

The USWNT hasn’t won an international tournament since the 2019 World Cup, when a pinkish, purpleish-haired Rapinoe helped the team to victory and won the MVP award, called the Golden Ball, for her six goals and three assists. After the win, Rapinoe said of the teamin her victory speech: “We got pink hair and purple hair. We have tattoos and dreadlocks. We got white girls and black girls. And everything in between. Straight girls and gay girls.”

Now, they’ve got a pink-haired Trinity Rodman, who has three goals so far in the tournament.

This Olympics has been a major improvement over the USWNT’s last international play, the 2023 World Cup, in which they struggled during the group stage before losing to Sweden in penalty kicks during the round of 16, ending their tournament early.

They’ve since regained a few major pieces who were out due to injury — like Mallory Swanson, who was with Rodman and their fellow forward Sophia Smith during the press conference —  as well as a new manager in Emma Hayes.

Now, they look on track for gold in what will be a tough match against Brazil. When asked to talk about their opponents — and star player Marta Vieira da Silva — Rodman brought the conversation back to their focus on themselves.

“Kudos to Brazil for getting to the place where they are, but I think just looking forward to this game, it is about what we can do on Saturday,” she said.
