On Monday, Aug. 5, the Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Miami Sector, Samuel Briggs II, confirmed in apost on X(formerly known as Twitter) that 70 lbs. of the drug had washed up on a beach in the Florida Keys.
“U.S. Border Patrol seized the drugs, which have a street value of over $1 million dollars,” the officer confirmed.
Among multiple other instances where drugs have been found around Florida, Briggs previously revealed in June that 65 lbs. of cocaine had been discovered floating at sea.
“We appreciate the support from Good Samaritans in our community,” Briggs added at the time.
Moultrie Police Chief Chad Castleberry confirmed to PEOPLE that a tree fell on a home in Moultrie, killing a 19-year-old man who was inside.

Florida Highway Patrol also said two people — a 38-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy — died in a crash in Dixie County on Aug. 4, hours before the storm made landfall, according toABC affiliate WTXL.
Witnesses told FHP the car lost control “due to inclement weather and wet roadway” before hitting a guard rail around 9:30 p.m. local time. A 14-year-old boy was reported to have been seriously injured in the single-car crash.

“Dangerous storm surge and tropical storm conditions will spread northward along the southeast U.S. coast from northeastern Florida to North Carolina through the middle of the week,” a message shared on the morning of Aug. 6 added.
