Woman, 77, Allegedly Killed Man with Gunshot to Groin After He 'Jokingly' Asked Her to Shoot Him

An elderly Ohio woman has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man to death because of something said during “harmless banter” between the two, local police say, according to several news outlets.

Arthur Osborne, 58, died after being shot on Sunday, Oct. 20, at a Cincinnati, Ohio, apartment, Cincinnati Police confirm to PEOPLE.

Citing investigators and court documents,WKRC,WLWTand theCincinnati Enquirerreported that Osborne was shot in the pelvic area.

That’s when Osborne “jokingly” asked Geiger to shoot him, Geiger allegedly told police, per the affidavit.

She allegedly said she believed the firearm was not loaded and shot him in his pelvic region, per the affidavit, WLWT, WCPO and theCincinnati Enquirer.

Police say Geiger rendered medical aid to Osborne and called 911, per WKRC, FOX 19 and theCincinnati Enquirer.

Hamilton County online court records show Geiger was charged with reckless homicide and that her bail was set at $10,000.

Court records did not indicate if she has entered a plea; an attorney listed in the documents did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
